About MOPAG

Progressives traditionally have worked on behalf of the members of society with the least power and influence. At various times in American history, circumstances have led to a concentration of wealth and political power in the hands of a few individuals and corporations. Working and middle class families have been losing ground since the mid- 70’s as wealth has increasingly shifted to the upper classes. It is during such times that the challenge is particularly great for progressives to pull the country back from assaults on civil liberties, exploitative economic policies, and abuses of political power eroding democratic governance.

In early 2011, in the wake of a sweeping victory for Republicans in the U.S. House, a group of St. Louis area progressives met to establish a network of activists who wanted to support progressive values by influencing public debate about issues of vital importance to the region, Missouri, and the nation. Since that time MOPAG has held monthly meetings and sponsored events to provide a forum to engage the public and political leaders on such issues, and engage its members and the public in activities that support progressivism in the region.
